The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Visual Recording of Interviews) (Certain Police Areas) Order 2002

Coming into force

Whereas the Secretary of State, in pursuance of section 60A(1)(a) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 19841, issued a code of practice for the visual recording of interviews held by police officers at police stations;

And whereas the Secretary of State, in pursuance of section 67(4) of that Act, by order2 brought that code into operation on 7th May 2002;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 60A(1)(b) and (2) of that Act, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Visual Recording of Interviews) (Certain Police Areas) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 8th May 2002.

This Order shall apply to interviews commencing after midnight on 7th May 2002 and held by police officers at the following police stations:

a

within the police area3 of Hampshire: Basingstoke, Portsmouth and Southampton;

b

within the police area of Kent: Chatham, Gravesend and Tonbridge;

c

within the metropolitan police district: Bromley, Colindale and Edmonton; and

d

within the police area of West Mercia: Redditch, Telford and Worcester.

Interviews to which this Order applies shall be visually recorded in accordance with the requirements of the code of practice on visual recording which comes into operation on 7th May 2002.

This Order requires the visual recording of interviews held by police officers at Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Southampton, Chatham, Gravesend, Tonbridge, Bromley, Colindale, Edmonton, Redditch, Telford and Worcester police stations.

The Order comes into force on 8th May 2000 and applies to interviews commencing after midnight on 7th May 2002.
