<Text>These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Amendment Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 1st April 2001.</Text>

<Text>These Regulations further amend the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992 (“the principal Regulations”), which regulate the terms on which doctors provide General Medical Services under the National Health Service Act 1977.</Text>
</P>
<P>
<Text>The Regulations amend paragraph 43 of Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations to allow doctors to prescribe buprenorphine by instalments, in addition to those drugs listed in Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1985, for the treatment of drug addiction to any of the drugs listed in that Schedule.</Text>
