Section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act 1985 (c. 61) allows the Council of the Law Society (with the concurrence of the Master of the Rolls) to make rules to recognise and regulate bodies corporate (referred to as “recognised bodies”) for the purpose of providing legal services. The Solicitors' Incorporated Practices Order 1991 (S.I. 1991/2684) provides for certain enactments passed or made before the commencement of section 9, which have effect in relation to solicitors, to apply to recognised bodies. This Order amends the Solicitors' Incorporated Practices Order 1991 under the powers conferred by section 9(7) of the Administration of Justice Act 1985 and interpreted by section 14 of the Interpretation Act 1978 (c. 30). The amendments allow the enactments referred to in the Solicitors' Incorporated Practices Order 1991 to apply to limited liability partnerships, which are recognised bodies, and to their members. A limited liability partnership is a legal entity formed by being incorporated under the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2000 (c. 12).
