Coming into force
Whereas:
pursuant to section 99(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act1 (“the 2000 Act”) the Secretary of State may issue a code of practice in connection with the exercise by police officers of any power conferred by the 2000 Act;
pursuant to section 101(2) of the 2000 Act, the Secretary of State has published a draft of the code of practice in connection with the exercise by police officers of the powers of detention and identification conferred by the 2000 Act and has considered representations made to him about it and modified it as he thinks appropriate;
pursuant to section 101(3) of the 2000 Act the Secretary of State has laid a draft of the code of practice before Parliament;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 101(4) of the 2000 Act the Secretary of State hereby makes the following order, a draft of which has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 123(4)(e) of the 2000 Act and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:
Citation and commencement1
This order may be cited as the Terrorism Act 2000 (Code of Practice on the Exercise of Police Powers) (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 19th February 2001.
Code of Practice2
The code of practice in connection with the exercise by police officers of the powers of detention and identification conferred by the 2000 Act which was laid before Parliament in draft on 15th January 2001 shall come into operation on 19th February 2001.
