The Education (Special Educational Needs Code of Practice) (Appointed Day) (England) Order 2001
Citation, commencement and extent1.
(1)
This Order may be cited as the Education (Special Educational Needs Code of Practice) (Appointed Day) (England) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1st January 2002.

This Order applies in relation to England.
Interpretation2.
In these Regulations—
“the Appointed Day” means 1st January 2002;
Appointed Day3.
The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice issued pursuant to section 314(4) of the Education Act 1996 on 3rd December 2001 shall come into effect on the Appointed Day.
Consequential and revocation4.
(1)
The Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs issued pursuant to the 1994 Order shall cease to have effect in so far as it relates to England on the Appointed Day.

The 1994 Order is hereby revoked in so far as it relates to England.
This Order appoints 1st January 2002 as the day on which the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice issued pursuant to section 313 of The Education Act 1996 on 3rd December 2001 by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills in relation to England shall come into effect. This Code of Practice gives practical guidance in respect of the discharge by local education authorities and governing bodies of certain schools in England of their functions under Part IV of the Education Act 1996 (which relates to children with special educational needs). The Code replaces, in England, the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs issued in 1994.
