<Text>These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Travelling Expenses and Remission of Charges) Amendment (No. 2) Regulations 2001.</Text>

<Text>These Regulations shall come into force on 1st October 2001.</Text>

<Text>In these Regulations “the <Abbreviation Expansion="National Health Service (Travelling Expenses and Remission of Charges) Regulations 1988 (S.I. 1988/551)">principal Regulations</Abbreviation>” means the National Health Service (Travelling Expenses and Remission of Charges) Regulations 1988<FootnoteRef Ref="f00002"/>.</Text>

<Title>Amendment of regulation 4 of the principal Regulations</Title>

<Text>These Regulations further amend the National Health Service (Travelling Expenses and Remission of Charges) Regulations 1988 (“the principal Regulations”) which provide for the remission and repayment of certain charges which would otherwise be payable under the National Health Service Act 1977 and for the payment of travelling expenses incurred in attending hospital.</Text>

<Text>Regulation 2 enables 16 and 17 year old children leaving the care of a local authority (as well as certain other 16 and 17 year old children who have been looked after by a local authority for at least thirteen weeks since they were 14) who are being wholly or partly maintained by a responsible local authority to benefit from full remission of charges and payment of travelling expenses.</Text>

<Text>Regulation 3 makes consequential amendments.</Text>
</P>
<P>
<Text>Regulation 4 provides for the period for which such children will benefit from the full remission of charges and payment of travelling expenses.</Text>
