<Text>These Regulations may be cited as the Immigration (Eligibility for Assistance) (Scotland and Northern Ireland) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 3rd April 2000.</Text>

<Text>In these Regulations, “the <Abbreviation Expansion="Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 c. 33">1999 Act</Abbreviation>” means the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.</Text>

<Title>Eligibility for social assistance—Scotland and Northern Ireland</Title>

<Pnumber>1</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), any asylum-seeker who made a claim for asylum before 3rd April 2000 and any dependant<FootnoteRef Ref="f00002"/> of such an asylum-seeker shall be treated–</Text>

<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>in Scotland, for the purposes prescribed by regulation 3 only;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>

<Text>in Northern Ireland, for the purposes prescribed by regulation 4 only;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<Text>as not being a person to whom section 115 of the 1999 Act (exclusion from benefits of persons subject to immigration control) applies.</Text>

<Text>Paragraph (1)(a) does not apply where the person who made the claim for asylum is a person who, by virtue of regulation 2 of the Social Security (Immigration and Asylum) Consequential Amendments Regulations 2000<FootnoteRef Ref="f00003"/> is not excluded by section 115(1) of the 1999 Act from entitlement to–</Text>

<Title>Eligibility for support for children—Scotland and Northern Ireland</Title>
