<Text>In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 49 and 63(3) of the Education (<Abbreviation Expansion="Number">No.</Abbreviation> 2) Act 1986<FootnoteRef Ref="f00001"/> and after consulting in accordance with section 49(4) of that Act such associations of local authorities, and representatives of school teachers, as appeared to him to be concerned and other persons with whom consultation appeared to him to be desirable, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:</Text>

<Text>These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Teacher Appraisal) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2000.</Text>

<Text>Regulations 1 and 4, and regulation 2 to the extent that it relates to regulation 4, shall come into force on 31st December 2000.</Text>

<Text>Regulations 3, 5 and 6, and regulation 2 to the extent that it relates to regulations 3, 5 and 6, shall come into force on 15th January 2001.</Text>

<Text>These Regulations shall apply in relation to England.</Text>

<Text>The Education (School Teacher Appraisal) (England) Regulations 2000<FootnoteRef Ref="f00002"/> shall be amended as follows.</Text>

<Text>In regulation 8(1) for “9 and 10” there shall be substituted “9, 10 and 10A”.</Text>

<Text>The governing body may determine that the length of the first appraisal cycle under these Regulations of the head teacher of the school shall be a period of less than one year.</Text>

<Text>In regulation 10(a) for “31st December 2000” there shall be substituted “6th April 2001”.</Text>

<Text>The governing body shall further secure that objectives have been agreed or set for the head teacher of a school in accordance with regulation 11 on or before 31st December 2001 and on or before 31st December in every subsequent year.</Text>

<Text>A school teacher’s objectives may be revised at any time during the appraisal cycle where the school teacher and his appraiser, or in the case of a head teacher all his appraisers, agree.</Text>

<P2para>
<Text>Where a school teacher’s objectives are revised under this regulation—</Text>
<P3>
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>his statement of objectives shall be amended to show the agreed revision;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>references in these Regulations to his objectives shall be read as references to his revised objectives; and</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>c</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>references in these Regulations to his statement of objectives shall be read as references to his amended statement of objectives.</Text>

<Text>These Regulations amend the Education (School Teacher Appraisal) (England) Regulations 2000 (“the Regulations”) (<Acronym Expansion="Statutory Instrument">S.I.</Acronym> <Citation URI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/uksi/2000/1620" id="c00001" Class="UnitedKingdomStatutoryInstrument" Year="2000" Number="1620">2000/1620</Citation>).</Text>
</P>
<P>
<Text>The deadline for the governing body of a school to which the Regulations apply to secure that the head teacher’s objectives have been agreed or set is extended from 31st December 2000 to 6th April 2001. The governing body may decide that the head teacher’s first appraisal cycle under the Regulations should be a period of less than one year. In each year starting from 2001, the governing body must ensure that the head teacher’s objectives have been agreed or set before 31st December in that year.</Text>

<Text>A school teacher’s objectives may be revised at any time during the appraisal cycle with the agreement of the teacher’s appraiser, or in the case of a head teacher, all his appraisers.</Text>
