Explanatory Note

Under the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Act 1991, the Secretary of State is authorised to make pay and conditions orders containing provision about the statutory conditions of employment of school teachers, including their remuneration.

This Order provides that for the purposes of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Act 1991 incentive payments known as “golden hellos”, for newly qualified school teachers or school teachers who have successfuly completed their induction periods taking up or occupying posts in shortage subjects, are not to be regarded as remuneration.
