The Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000
Citation, interpretation and application1.

This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000.

References in this Order to sections and Schedules are (except for the reference in article 3 to section 100D(2)) references to sections of, and Schedules to, the Local Government Act 2000.

This Order applies in relation to England only.
Provisions coming into force on 7th August 20002.
The following provisions shall come into force on 7th August 2000—
(a)
sections 10, 12, 17 to 20, 30, 32, 34 to 36, 38, 41, 47 and 48;
(b)
sections 11, 13, 22, 25, 27, 28, 31, 33, 37, 39, 44 and 45, in so far as they confer power to make an order or regulations, give directions, or issue guidance, and
(c)
section 23, to the extent that it relates to paragraphs 6, 7 and 9 to 11 of Schedule 1.
Provisions coming into force in relation to England on 1st October 20003.

This Order brings into force various provisions of the Local Government Act 2000 in relation to England. Sections 105, 106, 108 and 109 of that Act are already in force in accordance with section 108 of that Act.
The provisions specified in article 2, which come into force on 7th August 2000, are primarily concerned with executive arrangements, and with conferring on the Secretary of State power to make orders and regulations, give directions and issue guidance.
The provisions specified in article 3, which come into force on 1st October 2000, are concerned with access to information. Section 107(2) is brought into force for the purpose of commencing the repeals in Schedule 6 relating to section 100D of the Local Government Act 1972 which deals with background papers.
