The National Crime Squad (Secretary of State’s Objectives) Order 1999

This Order may be cited as the National Crime Squad (Secretary of State’s Objectives) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st April 1999.

The objectives for the National Crime Squad are–
(a)
to improve, in partnership, where appropriate, with other law enforcement agencies, the quality of operations leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals, or the dismantling or disruption of criminal enterprises, engaged in serious and organised crime within or which impacts on the United Kingdom;
(b)
(i)
by reducing the unlawful manufacture and distribution of controlled drugs within the United Kingdom,
(ii)
by reducing the quantity of such drugs entering the United Kingdom unlawfully, and
(iii)
by the arrest and prosecution of individuals, leading to the dismantling or disruption of criminal enterprises engaged in serious and organised crime connected with drug trafficking.

This Order sets out the Secretary of State’s objectives for the National Crime Squad. These objectives replace those set out in the National Crime Squad (Secretary of State’s Objectives) Order 1998, which is revoked by this Order. Section 48(5)(a) of the Police Act 1997 requires the NCS Authority to have regard to these objectives in the discharge of its functions. Section 50 of the 1997 Act requires the NCS Authority to issue a service plan which must give particulars of these objectives.
