In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 484 and 569(4) of the Education Act 1996(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Grants for Education Support and Training) (England) Regulations 1998 (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 19th March 1999.
2. The Education (Grants for Education Support and Training) (England) Regulations 1998(2) shall be amended as follows.
3. In regulation 2(1) in subparagraph (a) of the definition of “prescribed expenditure” for “20–24” there shall be substituted “20–36”.
4. In the Schedule for paragraph 35 there shall be substituted the following paragraph–
“35. Support for additional literacy and numeracy classes for pupils in maintained schools who will be completing key stage 2 in the summer of 1999.”

These Regulations further amend the Education (Grants for Education Support and Training) (England) Regulations 1998, by substituting a new paragraph 35 in the Schedule. This relates to additional literacy and numeracy classes for pupils in the final year of key stage 2 and replaces a provision which limited such support to classes provided out of school hours.
