(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Dental Auxiliaries Regulations 1986 (S.I.1986/887).

Regulation 3 amends the regulations relating to the rolls of dental auxiliaries, permitting the registration of approved additional diplomas connected with dentistry.

Regulation 4 amends the annual procedure for notifying the Registrar of intention to remain on a roll of dental auxiliaries. There shall be no form provided to apply for retention of the name, but the Registrar will send notice of the appropriate fee.

Regulation 5 amends the fees which shall be payable for retention of a name in a roll from £20.00 to £25.00 and for restoration of a name to a roll from £5.00 to £10.00.

Regulations 6 and 7 extend the work permitted to be carried out by dental hygienists and dental therapists to enable them to place a temporary dressing in a tooth where a filling has fallen out while they are carrying out other treatment permitted by the Regulations. They must do so under the direction of a registered dentist, but do not need a written indication from a registered dentist that the temporary dressing is required provided that the dental auxiliary advises the patient to see his or her dentist as soon as possible and informs the patient’s dentist as soon as possible after the treatment.
