(This note is not part of the Order)

These Regulations amend the Aeroplane Noise Regulations 1999. They make provision to implement the Community obligations of the United Kingdom contained in Commission Directive 1999/28/EC of 21 April 19994. This Directive amends the Annex to Council Directive 92/14/EEC of 2 March 1992 on the limitation of the operation of aeroplanes covered by Part II, Chapter 2, Volume 1 of Annex 16 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, second edition (1988) as amended by Council Directive 98/20/EC of 30 March 19985.

The Schedule to the Aeroplane Noise Regulations 1999 lists certain aeroplanes of developing countries which are excepted from the requirement to be certified to the standards specified in Chapter 3 of the 1988 edition of Volume 1 of Annex 16.

These Regulations remove aeroplanes from that Schedule which have been destroyed or removed from the register of the relevant developing nation.
