These Regulations–consolidate (with certain changes consequential upon the School Standards and Framework Act 1998) the Education (School Information) (Wales) Regulations 1997 as amended, which are revoked; andsimplify the information about school attendance figures that governing bodies are required to publish.

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 408, 509(6), 537(1) to (8) and 569(4) and (5) of, and paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 to, the Education Act 19961 and sections 92(1) to (4) and (6) and 138(7) and (8) of the School Standards and Framework Act 19982, and after consulting with those persons with whom consultation appeared to him to be desirable, the Secretary of State for Wales hereby makes the following Regulations:
