The National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (Amendment of Section 23) Order 1999

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 29 of the National Lottery etc. Act 19931, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (Amendment of Section 23) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st July 1999.

Amendment of section 23 of the National Lottery etc. Act 19932

Subsection (2) of section 23 of the National Lottery etc. Act 19932 (the distributing bodies) shall be amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) to (6) below.

In paragraph (a) (as to 83.3 per cent., for distribution by the English Sports Council) for “83.3 per cent.” there shall be substituted “75.6 per cent.”.

In paragraph (b) (as to 8.9 per cent., for distribution by the Scottish Sports Council) for “8.9 per cent.” there shall be substituted “8.1 per cent.”.

In paragraph (c) (as to 5 per cent., for distribution by the Sports Council for Wales) for “5 per cent.” there shall be substituted “4.5 per cent. ”.

In paragraph (d) (as to 2.8 per cent., for distribution by the Sports Council for Northern Ireland) for “2.8 per cent.” there shall be substituted “ 2.6 per cent.”.

After paragraph (d) there shall be inserted–

as to 9.2 per cent., for distribution by the United Kingdom Sports Council.

This Order amends section 23(2) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993, which sets out the distributing bodies for expenditure on or connected with sport, by adding the United Kingdom Sports Council to the bodies specified in it. The United Kingdom Sports Council is an incorporated body established by Royal Charter.

This Order further amends section 23(2) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 by substituting different percentages for the percentages specified in it in respect of the other distributing bodies.
