The General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1998

And whereas by section 34 of the said Act such rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council:
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said rules into consideration, are hereby pleased to approve the same, and hereby revoke with effect from 1st April 1998 the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1996.
This Order may be cited as the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1998.
SCHEDULEGENERAL OPTICAL COUNCIL
The Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 1997
In pursuance of their powers under section 10 of the Opticians Act 1989, the General Optical Council hereby make the following rules:—

These rules may be cited as the Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 1997.

These Rules shall come into force on 1st April 1998 and shall apply to applications for registration, enrolment, retention, restoration and transfer to take effect on or after 1st April 1998 whether made before, on or after that date.

The rules approved by this Order increase with effect from 1st April 1998 the fees payable to the General Optical Council by ophthalmic and dispensing opticians and bodies corporate carrying on business as opticians for registration, enrolment or retention in, restoration to and transfer within the register of opticians. The fees were last fixed in April 1997 and the order of increase is approximately 15 to 16 per cent.
This Order also revokes a previous Order of Council which becomes spent on the revocation of rules which are scheduled to it.
