The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 2(9) and 15(5) of the Local Government Act 19881, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement1
This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Exemption) (Basildon, Derwentside and Salisbury District Councils) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st April 1998.
Exemption of activities carried out by Basildon District Council2
The following activities carried out by the council of the district of Basildon shall not be treated as defined activities so long as they are carried out for Vange Community Housing Limited during the period beginning with 1st April 1998 and ending on 31st March 1999:
Exemption of managing sports and leisure facilities carried out by Derwentside District Council3
The management of sports and leisure facilities6 by the council of the district of Derwentside shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as it is carried out within that district during the period beginning with 1st April 1998 and ending on 31st August 1998.
Exemption of cleaning of buildings carried out by Salisbury District Council4
The cleaning of buildings7 by the council of the district of Salisbury shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as it is carried out at the Friary Estate or the Bemerton Heath Housing Estate in that district during the period beginning with 1st April 1998 and ending on 31st March 1999.
