Coming into force

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 19841, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis pursuant to section 7(6) of that Act2, hereby makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the A4 Trunk Road (Bath Road and Newport Road, Hillingdon) (Prohibition of U-turn) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 25th February 1998.

In this Order:

  • “Newport Road” means the road of that name in the London Borough of Hillingdon; and

  • “the Trunk Road” means that length of the A4 Trunk Road in the London Borough of Hillingdon known as Bath Road.

Save as provided in article 4 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in the eastbound carriageway of the Trunk Road to make a U-turn at the junction with Newport Road so as to proceed in the opposite direction.

Nothing in article 3 above shall apply to—

a

any vehicle being used for Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance purposes; or

b

anything done at the direction of, or with the permission of, a constable in uniform or a traffic warden.
