Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 8 of the Visiting Forces Act 1952(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Visiting Forces and International Headquarters (Application of Law) (Amendment) Order 1998 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
2.—(1) The Visiting Forces and International Headquarters (Application of Law) Order 1965(2) shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this article.
(2) In article 3(3), for the words “the Federal Republic of Germany and Spain” there shall be substituted the words—
“the Federal Republic of Germany, Spain, Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Sweden.”
(3) In article 7(c), after the words “force or” there shall be inserted the words “any persons employed in support of that force or by members”.

This Order amends article 3(3) of the Visiting Forces and International Headquarters (Application of Law) Order 1965 by inserting Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Sweden as countries to whose forces the 1965 Order applies. This is done in pursuance of the Agreement, dated 19th June 1995, made between Member States of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and those other States which have accepted the invitation to take part in the Partnership for Peace (Miscellaneous No. 12 (1996), Cm. 3237).
The Order also amends article 7(c) of the 1965 Order by adding to the categories of persons who may be excepted under that article from the provisions of Part I of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949.
