The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of powers conferred by sections 3(3), 122(1) and 175(1) to (3) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 19921, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after agreement by the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals to make the Regulations should not be referred to it2, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation, commencement and interpretation1

These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Contributions) Amendment (No. 4) Regulations 1998 and shall come into force on 22nd September 1998.

In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the Social Security (Contributions) Regulations 19793.
Amendment of regulation 19 of the principal Regulations2
In regulation 19 of the principal Regulations (payments to be disregarded) before paragraph (1)(n)4, insert–
mm
a payment which comprises any gain on which the earner is chargeable to tax by virtue of section 135 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 (gains by directors and employees from share options)5;
