In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 20(7) of the School Standards and Framework Act 19981, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (Appointed Day) Order 1998.

The Secretary of State hereby appoints 1st September 1999 as the appointed day for the purposes of section 20 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.

This Order appoints 1st September 1999 as the appointed day for the purposes of section 20 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.

References in that Act (except in Part I of Schedule 32) to the appointed day are to be read as references to 1st September 1999. It is on that date, amongst other things, that the new framework for maintained schools set out in that Act will come into being.
