Whereas I believe that the organisations mentioned in the Schedule are concerned in terrorism connected with the affairs of Northern Ireland, or in promoting or encouraging it, and that they have not established or are not maintaining a complete and unequivocal ceasefire:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 3(8) of the Northern Ireland (Sentences) Act 19981 (“the Act”) I hereby make the following Order, a draft of which has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 19(2) of that Act and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:
Citation and commencement1
This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Sentences) Act 1998 (Specified Organisations) Order 1998 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
Specified organisations2
The organisations specified in the Schedule to this Order are specified organisations for the purposes of the Act.
SCHEDULE
The Continuity Irish Republican Army.
The Loyalist Volunteer Force.
The Irish National Liberation Army.
The “Real” Irish Republican Army.
