Whereas a referendum has been held about the agreement reached at the multi-party talks on Northern Ireland set out in Command Paper 3883 and a majority of those voting supported the agreement;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 8(2) of the Northern Ireland (Elections) Act 1998, I hereby make the following Order:— 1 This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Elections) Act 1998 (Commencement) Order 1998. 2 The provisions of the Northern Ireland (Elections) Act 1998, other than sections 2(5) and (6), 3, 6 and 8 (which are already in force), shall come into force on 28th May 1998.
