Being of the opinion that the Teacher Training Agency may, having regard to their general objectives, appropriately discharge the additional function hereby conferred and having carried out such consultation as appears to him to be appropriate pursuant to section 16(3) of the Education Act 1994(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 16(1) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st June 1998.
2. There is hereby conferred on the Teacher Training Agency the additional function of arranging the provision of training for, and the assessment of, candidates undertaking a qualification, to be known as the National Professional Qualification for Headship, regarding a person’s abilities to act as a head teacher of a school.

This Order confers on the Teacher Training Agency, established under section 1 of the Education Act 1994, the additional function of arranging the training for, and assessment of, candidates leading to the award of a qualification, to be known as the National Professional Qualification for Headship, regarding a person’s abilities to act as a head teacher of a school.
