Preliminary 2 The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 shall be further amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations. Amendment to regulation 98 (stopping of engine when stationary) 3 In regulation 98(1), there shall be inserted at the end the words “or of exhaust emissions”. These Regulations further amend the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.

Regulation 98 provides that, except in specified circumstances, the driver of a vehicle must stop the engine when the vehicle is stationary in order to prevent noise. The effect of these Regulations is to amend that provision so as to add the prevention of exhaust emissions as a reason for stopping the engine.

1988 c. 52. Section 41 was amended by the Road Traffic Act 1991 (c. 40), Schedule 4, paragraph 50 and Schedule 8. S.I. 1986/1078 to which there are amendments not relevant to these Regulations.
