Citation and interpretation1.

This Order may be cited as the Housing Act 1996 (Commencement No.6 and Savings) Order 1997.

In this Order “the commencement date” means 12th February 1997.
Commencement and Savings2.
The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on the commencement date, subject to the savings in the Schedule to this Order—
sections 124 to 128,
section 129(1), (2), (5) and (6),
sections 130 to 134,
sections 136 and 137,
section 138(1) to (3),
section 141(1),
sections 144 to 146, and
section 147 to the extent that it is not already in force.
SCHEDULESAVINGS
Signed by authority of the Secretary of State
Article 2 of this Order brings into force on 12th February 1997 the following provisions of the Housing Act 1996—
sections 124 to 128, 129(1), (2), (5) and (6), 130 to 134, 136 to 137, 138(1) to (3) and 141(1) (introductory tenancies); and
sections 144 to 146 and, to the extent it is not already in force, section 147 (repossession, &c.: secure tenancies).
The amendments to Part IV of the Housing Act 1985 (secure tenancies) made by the provisions commenced in the Order are subject to the savings in the Schedule to the Order.
The following provisions of the Housing Act 1996 have been brought into force by commencement orders made before the date of this Order.
