The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 153(4) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st April 1997.
2. In section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (purposes for which financial assistance may be given) there shall be inserted after paragraph (ee)(2) :
“(ff)The Tidy Britain Group.”.

This Order varies section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to enable the Secretary of State, with the consent of the Treasury, to give financial assistance to, or for the purposes of, The Tidy Britain Group, a company limited by guarantee whose main objective is to promote the prevention and control of litter.
