The Education Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3) Order 1997

This Statutory Instrument supersedes an earlier identically numbered instrument, which incorrectly included below the title “Laid before Parliament” and “Coming into force” as italicised headings. It is being issued free of charge to all known recipients of that earlier Instrument.

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 583(3) and (5)(b) of the Education Act 1996(1) the Secretary of State for Wales hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3) Order 1997.

2.  Section 528 of the Education Act 1996, in its application to Wales, shall come into force on 30th October 1997.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force section 528 of the Education Act 1996 (under which local education authorities are placed under a duty to publish disability statements relating to further education) in its application to Wales on 30th October 1997.

Note as to Earlier Commencement Orders

When section 528 is brought into force by this Order all the provisions of the Education Act 1996 will be in force.

Almost all the provisions of the Education Act 1996 came into force on 1st November 1996. A small number of provisions, however, come into force on a day appointed by Order, and the following provisions have been brought into force by Commencement Order made before the date of this Order.
