The Immigration (Exemption from Control) (Amendment) Order 1997

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 8(2) of the Immigration Act 19711, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.

This Order may be cited as the Immigration (Exemption from Control) (Amendment) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st July 1997.

2.

In this Order β€œthe principal Order” means the Immigration (Exemption from Control) Order 19722.

3.

In article 4 of the principal Order (which exempts certain persons from any provision of the Immigration Act 1971 relating to those who are not British Citizens except any provision relating to deportation), for paragraph (1) there shall be substituted the following paragraphs:

β€œ(l)

any member of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office as defined by paragraph 8 of the Schedule to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Act 19963,

(m)

any member of the family of a person exempted under any of the preceding paragraphs forming part of his household.”.

This Order amends article 4 of the Immigration (Exemption from Control) Order 1972. The effect is to exempt members of the staff of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, from any provision of the Immigration Act 1971 relating to those who are not British Citizens (except any provision relating to deportation).
