This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping and Maritime Security Act 1997 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1997.

The provisions of the Act specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in the second column of that Schedule) shall come into force on 23rd March 1997.

This Order brings into force certain provisions in the Merchant Shipping and Maritime Security Act 1997, as follows:
Section 1: | Temporary exclusion zones. |
Section 9 (partially) and _Schedule 1 (partially): | Amendment of powers of inspection and detention. |
Section 10: | Power to require ships to be moved. |
Schedules 6 and 7: | Amendments and repeals of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 consequential on the above, and on other provisions of the Act which came into force on Royal Assent. |
