The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 12(1) and (2) of Schedule 2B to, and sections 47 and 48(1)1 of, the Gas Act 19862, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

Citation and commencement1

These Regulations may be cited as the Gas Meters (Information on Connection and Disconnection) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 1st March 1996.

Form and contents of notice under paragraph 12 of Schedule 2B2

A notice under paragraph 12(1) of Schedule 2B to the Gas Act 1986 (failure to notify connection or disconnection of service pipe) shall be in the form specified in the Schedule to these Regulations or a form to the like effect, and shall contain the information specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

Paragraph 12 of Schedule 2B to the Gas Act 1986 provides that a person proposing to connect a meter with a service pipe through which gas is conveyed to any premises by a public gas transporter, or to disconnect a meter from such a pipe, must give 48 hours' notice of the connection or disconnection to the gas supplier supplying gas to the premises, or to the transporter in question. The Regulations prescribe the form of the notice and the information which it is to contain. This includes details of the meter itself and of the person requesting the connection or disconnection.
