The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 18 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1) and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Overseas Territories) (Gibraltar) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 19th March 1996.
2. The Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Overseas Territories) Order 1992(2) is hereby amended by inserting “Gibraltar” after “Cayman Islands” in column (4) of the Schedule thereto.

This Order amends the Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Overseas Territories) Order 1992. It adds Gibraltar to those relevant overseas territories which are assigned to the category of registries designated as category 1 (Unlimited tonnage and type); that is, the category to which no restriction as to tonnages or types of ships which may be registered applies.
