Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1) and (3) of, and Part IV of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 19841, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis pursuant to section 7(6) of that Act2,, hereby makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the A1400 Trunk Road (Southend Road, Redbridge) (Prohibition of Right Turn and U-Turns) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 13th September 1996.

In this Order —

  • “the un-named road”means the access road to a retail development off Southend Road opposite Lechmere Approach;

  • “Southend Road”means that length of the A1400 Trunk Road in the London Borough of Redbridge known as Southend Road;

  • “Lechmere Approach”means the road of that name in the London Borough of Redbridge; and

  • “the junction”means the junction of Southend Road with Lechmere Approach and the un-named road.

Save as provided in article 4 below, no person shall, at the junction, cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in —

a

Southend Road westbound carriageway to make a right turn into Lechmere Approach;

b

Southend Road eastbound carriageway to make a U-turn so as to proceed in the opposite direction; and

c

Southend Road westbound carriageway to make a U-turn so as to proceed in the opposite direction.

Nothing in this Order shall apply —

a

to anything done at the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform;

b

to any vehicle being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes.
