UNITED NATIONS
This Order makes provision as respects the United Kingdom to implement a resolution of the Security Council of the United Nations relating to Rwanda. The Order has effect for the purpose of enabling the United Kingdom to co-operate with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Genocide and Other Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of Rwanda and Rwandan citizens responsible for genocide and other such violations committed in the territory of neighbouring states, between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1994, established by resolution 955(1994) of the Security Council of the United Nations (“International Tribunal”) in the investigation and prosecution of persons accused of committing International Tribunal crimes and the punishment of persons convicted of such crimes.

Where the Secretary of State receives a request from the International Tribunal to determine the ownership of property or the proceeds of property, he, or in relation to Scotland the Lord Advocate, may make an application to the court for a decision as to the ownership of the property or proceeds.
