Citation, commencement and interpretation

This Order may be cited as the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Music) (England) Order 1995 and shall come into force on 1st August 1995.

This Order applies to pupils at maintained schools and grant-maintained special schools (other than those established in a hospital) in England only.

Specification of attainment targets and programmes of study

It is hereby directed that the provisions relating to attainment targets and programmes of study set out in the Document shall have effect for the purposes of specifying attainment targets and programmes of study in relation to music.

The examples printed in italics in the Document (which serve to illustrate the programmes of study described therein) do not form part of the provision made by this Order.
This Order provides for the attainment targets and programmes of study specified in relation to key stages 1 to 3 of a pupil’s compulsory schooling in the document published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in January 1995 entitled “Music in the National Curriculum (England)” (ISBN 0 11 270891 9) to have effect for the purpose of specifying those elements of the National Curriculum for music. These provisions apply to pupils at maintained schools and grant-maintained special schools (but not if established in hospitals) in England only, with effect from 1st August 1995.
The Order supersedes the provisions of the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Music) (England) Order 1992.
