Her Majesty, in pursuance of sections 1(1) and 1(4) of the Education (Schools) Act 1992(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 31st August 1994.
2. Christopher Anthony Woodhead is hereby appointed Her Majestys Chief Inspector of Schools in England for a period of five years from 1st September 1994.
3. The Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 1992(2)is hereby revoked.

This Order appoints Christopher Anthony Woodhead to be Her Majestys Chief Inspector of Schools in England for a period of five years from 1st September 1994. He succeeds Professor Stewart Ross Sutherland who has resigned with effect from 31st August 1994 and who was appointed under the Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 1992 (S.I. 1992/1295).
