In exercise of the powers conferred by section 158(4) of the Education Act 1993(1) the Secretary of State for Education hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Special Educational Needs Code of Practice) (Appointed Day) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 1st September 1994.
2. 1st September 1994 is hereby appointed as the day on which the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs issued pursuant to Section 158(4) of the Education Act 1993 on 25th May 1994 shall come into effect.

This Order appoints 1st September 1994 as the day on which the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs issued on 25th May 1994 shall come into effect. This Code of Practice (pursuant to section 157 of the Education Act 1993) gives practical guidance in respect of the discharge by local authorities and governing bodies of certain schools of their functions under Part III of the Education Act 1993 (which relates to children with special educational needs).
Copies of the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs can be obtained from the Department for Education, Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BT or from the Welsh Office Education Department, Phase 2, Government Buildings, Ty Glas, Llanishen, Cardiff CF4 5WE.
