This Order makes two small changes to the boundary between Lancashire and GreaterManchester.

One area is transferred from Lancashire (borough of Blackburn) to themetropolitan borough of Bury in Greater Manchester, and the other is transferred fromBury to Lancashire (Rossendale).

Changes, mainly of a minor nature, are also made to thedistrict boundaries within Greater Manchester.

These involve the boundary of Bury withManchester, and with Salford.

Consequential changes are made to the boundaries of local government electoral areas,petty sessional divisions and coroner’s districts.

The map and table forming part of this Note (Pages 4 and 5) give a general guide to thelocation, area and population of the land affected.

Prints of the detailed order maps(described in article 2) may be inspected at all reasonable times at the offices of the councilfor each borough or city affected, and additionally at the offices of the Secretary of Statefor the Environment located in 2, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3EB.

The Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976 (S. I. 1976/246, amended by S. I.1978/247) contain general provisions regarding the effect of orders such as this one.

Transfer of area at Walves, located along Ramsbottom Road, and stretching westwards from Walves Bridge.

Greater Manchester (Bury) to Lancashire (Rossendale)— article 4 Area: 5 Population: 2

Transfer of area at Dearden Clough, including part of Rochdale Road (A680) and open land.

Bury to Manchester— ;article 5 Area: 6 Population: 50

Transfer of area located south-west of the M66 motorway at Heaton Park, and running south-eastwards from Bridle Road to the River Irk, including part of Old Hall Lane and properties in that Lane near its junction with Middleton Road.

Realignments in the following vicinities

    site of former Jubilee School in Park Road;

  2. (ii)

    Brooklands Road/Carlton Avenue/Huntley Road;

  3. (iii)

    Edenfield Road/Windsor Crescent.

Manchester to Bury— article 6 Area: 6 Population: 400

At Heaton Park, transfer of St Margaret’s Lodge in St Margaret’s Road, and of School Lodge in Bury Old Road.

Transfer of largely residential area on the western side of Middleton Road, including the United Synagogue, Newington Avenue, Hillwood Avenue, Windsor Crescent and part of Meade Hill Road.

Realignments

  1. (i)

    to the rear of properties on the eastern side of Edenfield Road; and

  2. (ii)

    between Park Road and Rothesay Road.

Bury to Salford— article 7 Area: 1 Population: 16

Realignments

  1. (i)

    in vicinity of Kersal Vale Road, so that boundary follows the line of Singleton Brook to its junction with the River Irwell; and

  2. (ii)

    in Bury Old Road/Singleton Road.

Salford to Bury— article 8 Area: 2 Population: 0

Realignment at Moor Lane to unite Kersal Vale Works in Bury.

Realignment to unite Mountheath Industrial Park in Bury.
