The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred on her by section 128(1) of the National Health Service Act 1977 (1) and paragraph 2(3) of Schedule 1 to the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 (2) and all other powers enabling her in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Regional and District Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Amendment Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993, immediately after the Regional and District Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Amendment Regulations 1992 (3).

University non-officer members for District Health Authorities

2.  In Part I of Schedule 1 to the Regional and District Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Regulations 1990 (4), for the entries “Parkside Health Authority”, “Riverside Health Authority”, “Bloomsbury and Islington Health Authority”, “Hampstead Health Authority”, “City and Hackney Health Authority” and “Tower Hamlets Health Authority”, there shall be substituted the entries “Kensington Chelsea and Westminster Health Authority”, “Camden and Islington Health Authority” and “East London and The City Health Authority” (5).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend Part I of Schedule 1 to the Regional and District Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Regulations 1990 which specifies those District Health Authorities in England which are required to have at least one non-officer member who holds a post in a university with a medical or dental school.

These Regulations are made in consequence of the National Health Service (District Health Authorities) Order 1993 which abolishes Parkside, Riverside, Bloomsbury and Islington, Hampstead, City and Hackney and Tower Hamlets Health Authorities and establishes Kensington Chelsea and Westminster Health Authority, Camden and Islington Health Authority and East London and The City Health Authority.
