Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order makes changes to the boundary—

(a)between the county of Hereford and Worcester (district of Bromsgrove) and the metropolitan county of West Midlands (metropolitan borough of Dudley);

(b)between West Midlands (metropolitan boroughs of Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton) and the county of Staffordshire (districts of Lichfield and South Staffordshire); and

(c)within West Midlands, between the following—

(i)the city of Birmingham and the metropolitan borough of Sandwell;

(ii)Dudley and Sandwell;

(iii)Sandwell and Walsall;

(iv)Dudley and Wolverhampton;

(v)Walsall and Wolverhampton; and

(vi)Sandwell and Wolverhampton.

Consequential changes are made to parishes, local government electoral areas, petty sessional divisions and coroners' districts.

The map and table forming part of this Note (Pages 8 to 12) give a general guide to the location, area and population of the land affected. Prints of the detailed order maps (described in article 2) may be inspected at all reasonable times at the offices of the council for each city, district or metropolitan borough affected, and additionally at the offices of the Secretary of State for the Environment located in 2, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3EB.

The Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976 (S.I. 1976/246, amended by S.I. 1978/247) contain general provisions regarding the effect of orders such as this one.

Realignment to rear curtilages of properties at Wallows Wood, Himley.

Transfer of area south of Mill Green Farm and east of Chester Road, including part of Forge Lane and of Mill Farm.

Transfer of Aldersley School to Wolverhampton, and realignment to unite Barnhurst/Dovecotes Estate in Wolverhampton.

Transfer to Wolverhampton of area to the south of the M54 motorway located near the junction of the A449 road, and lying between the Towing Path at Coven Heath and Cat and Kittens Lane.

Realignments at Pattingham Road/Perton Grove/Boundary Farm.

Realignments to more defined boundary at The Droveway and Upper Pendeford Farm.
