The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Instrument in exercise of powers conferred by section 106(3) of the Highways Act 19801, and now vested in him2, and of all other enabling powers:—

The City of Coventry (North-South Road Phase 1) (Coventry Canal Bridges) Scheme 1990 is hereby confirmed without modifications.

The said Scheme as confirmed (hereinafter referred to as “the Scheme”) is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the Scheme with its accompanying plans are deposited at the offices of the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY and at the offices of the City of Coventry, Council House, Coventry, CV1 5RR.

The Scheme will become operative on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

This Instrument may be cited as the City of Coventry (North-South Road Phase 1) (Coventry Canal Bridges) Scheme 1990 Confirmation Instrument 1992.

THE SCHEDULETHE CITY OF COVENTRY

(NORTH-SOUTH ROAD PHASE 1)(COVENTRY CANAL BRIDGES) SCHEME 1990

The Council of the City of Coventry (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) make this Scheme in exercise of its powers under Section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980 and all other enabling powers—

The Council are authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the Coventry Canal the bridges specified in the first schedule and the second schedule to the Scheme as part of the highway which the Council are proposing to construct between Three Spires Roundabout, Phoenix Way and Red Lane in the City of Coventry, and to widen over the navigable waters of the Coventry Canal the bridge specified in the third Schedule to the Scheme as part of a highway to be improved by the Council under the City of Coventry (North-South Road Phase I) (A444 Classified Road) (Side Roads and Other Works) Order 1990.

This Scheme may be cited as the City of Coventry (North-South Road Phase I) (Coventry Canal Bridges) Scheme 1990.

The First Schedule to the SchemePlans and Specification of the Spring Road Canal Bridge

Location

The Location and the general design of the Bridge are shown on the plan numbered 2151/205 annexed hereto.

The Bridge will cross the Coventry Canal approximately 200 metres south of Old Church Road.

Construction

The bridge superstructure will be of precast concrete units on reinforced concrete abutments.

Span

The bridge will have a minimum clear square span of 9 metres.

Waterway

The clear width between the Canal walls will be 7 metres.

Headway

The miminum headway will be 3.6 metres above water level.

The Second Schedule to the SchemePlans and Specification of the Health Crescent Canal Bridge

Location

The location and general design of the Bridge are shown on the plan numbered 2151/207 annexed hereto.

The Bridge will cross the Coventry Canal between Heath Crescent and Newdigate Road.

Construction

The Bridge superstructure will be of precast concrete units on reinforced concrete abutments.

Span

The Bridge will have a minimum clear span of 9 metres.

Waterway

The clear width between the canal walls will be 7 metres.

Headway

The minimum headway will be 3.1 metres above water level.

The Third Schedule to the SchemePlans and Specification of the Widened Navigation Bridge

Location

The location and the general design of the Bridge are shown on the plan numbered 2151/206 annexed hereto.

The Bridge will cross the Coventry Canal near Navigation Inn, Stoney Stanton Road.

Construction

The Bridge superstructure will be of precast concrete units on reinforced concrete abutments.

Span

The Bridge will have a minimum clear span to suit the span of the existing arch.

Waterway

The clear width between the canal walls will be 4.7 metres.

Headway

The minimum headway will suit the existing arch.
