The Secretary of State is authorised to provide along the route described in the Schedule to this scheme a special road for the use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

The centre line of the special road is indicated by a heavy black line of the deposited plan.

The special road except insofar as its route is comprised in any existing trunk road shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

In this Scheme:—

all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

“the deposited plan” means the plan numbered CSE 403/4B/26/015 marked “The M3 Motorway (Bar End-Compton Section) Scheme 1990”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; and
ii
“the special road” means the special road mentioned in article 1 of this Scheme

This Scheme shall come into force on 14th March 1990 and may be cited as the M3 Motorway (Bar End-Compton Section) Scheme 1990.

SCHEDULE
The Route of the Special Road
A route, about 4.2 kilometres in length, starting at a point on the route of the M3 Motorway (Popham-Bar End Section) about 428 metres northeast of its junction with Bar End Road (A272) at Bar End, Winchester. Proceeding in a generally southwesterly direction, the route passes to the east of St Catherine’s Hill and crosses the B3335 road at Hockley, the A33 Winchester Bypass and the London-Southampton Railway at Shawford. The route then re-crosses the Winchester Bypass to end at a point on the route of the A33 (Otterbourne and Chandlers Ford Bypass) immediately south of its junction with the A31 at Compton.
