The Secretary of State for the Environment as respects England, the Secretary of State for Wales as respects Wales, and the Secretary of State for Scotland as respects Scotland, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 171(1) and (2)(a) of the Local Government and Housing Act 19891, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the Home Purchase Assistance (Winding Up of Scheme) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 31st March 1990.

Winding Up Provisions

1st April 1990 is specified as the date from which account will no longer be taken under the assistance legislation of—

a

any notice given on or after that date under paragraph 34(5) of the Home Purchase Assistance Directions 1978, or

b

any period of two years as described in paragraph 34(8) of those Directions which starts to run on or after that date.

1st April 1993 is specified as the date from which account will no longer be taken under the assistance legislation of the making of any application for assistance.

This Order provides for the winding up of the home purchase assistance scheme. No notice can be given by a purchaser prior to the commencement of saving with a view to qualifying for assistance after 31st March 1990, and no qualifying period of saving in the absence of such a notice can commence after the same date. An application for assistance must be made before 1st April 1993.
