The Royal Air Force Terms of Service (Amendment) Regulations 1990
Citation and commencement1.
These Regulations may be cited as the Royal Air Force Terms of Service (Amendment) Regulations 1990 and shall come into force on 1st January 1991.

In paragraph (1), for the words “17 years 6 months” there shall be substituted “16 years”.

In paragraph (2) —
(a)
for the words from “either (but not both)” to “to say: (a)” there shall be substituted “the right”;
(b)
the words from “or (b)” to “the relevant date,” shall be omitted; and
(c)
for the words “such rights” there shall be substituted “such right”.

A person enlisted pursuant to this Regulation shall retain the right conferred thereby to transfer to the reserve notwithstanding that his term is extended under Regulation 14(1).”.

These Regulations further amend the Royal Air Force Terms of Service Regulations 1985 by (i) reducing the minimum age for men enlisted on a notice engagement from 17 years 6 months to 16 years; (ii) bringing the right to transfer to the reserve given to women into line with that given to men; and (iii) preserving that right notwithstanding the extension of terms of air force service under regulation 14(1).
