These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) Regulations 1984.
The Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 (S.I. 1989/1580) provided for the cessation of the requirements specified in item 4C of Schedule 1, in relation to certain vehicles, on specified dates. The effect of the amendment is to revoke the cessation dates relating to some small passenger vehicles with spark ignition engines.
The main effect of the amendment is that most cars with spark ignition engines of less than 1400 cc will continue to be able to meet the type approval requirements relating to exhaust emissions if they comply with Council Directive 70/220/EEC (L76, 6.4.70, p.1) (S.E. 1970(I), p.171) as last amended by Council Directive 83/351/EEC (L197, 20.7.83, p.1) or ECE Regulation 15 as revised on the 20th of October 1981 and corrected on the 9th of June 1982 or ECE Regulation 15 as revised on the 20th of October 1981, corrected on the 9th of June 1982 and amended on the 1st of June 1984.
