The Education (Bursaries for Teacher Training) (Amendment) Regulations 1990

Coming into force

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 50 and 63 of the Education (No. 2) Act 19861, the Secretary of State for Education and Science as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:—

These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Bursaries for Teacher Training) (Amendment) Regulations1990 and shall come into force on 1st September 1990.

The Education (Bursaries for Teacher Training) Regulations 19882 shall be amended as follows:–

a

in regulation 5 —

i

at the end of paragraph (b) there shall be added the words —

or, in the case of a course of which the principal subject matter is either Welsh or a modern foreign language specified in the Schedule hereto, on or after 1st September 1990;

ii

in paragraph (c) after the words “aged 11 to 16” there shall be inserted the word “or”; there shall be substituted for the word “and” after item (vi) the word “or”; and there shall be added after item (vi) the words —

vii

Welsh, or

viii

a modern foreign language specified in the Schedule hereto; and

b

in paragraph (1) of regulation 7 —

i

there shall be substituted for the words “£1,300 per annum in respect of a full-time course” the words “£2,000 per annum in respect of a full-time course of the kind mentioned in regulation 5(c)(ii) and £1,500 per annum in respect of any other full-time course”;

ii

there shall be substituted for the words “that amount” the words “the appropriate amount”.

There shall be added after regulation 9 the following —

These Regulations amend the Education (Bursaries for Teacher Training) Regulations 1988. They empower the Secretary of State to pay training bursaries in respect of courses of initial teacher training which begin on or after 1st September 1990and of which the principal subject matter is either Welsh or a specified modern foreign language. A drafting amendment has been made to regulation 5 (c).
