Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 138(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Torture) (Isle of Man) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 13th July 1989.
2. Sections 134 and 135 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 shall extend to the Isle of Man with the modifications and exceptions specified in the Schedule to this Order.

Article 2
1. In section 134 –
(a)except as otherwise provided in this paragraph, for the words “United Kingdom” wherever they occur there shall be substituted the words “Isle of Man”;
(b)in subsection (5)(a), for the words “the part of the United Kingdom where it was inflicted” there shall be substituted the words “the Isle of Man”;
(c)in subsection (5)(b)–
(i)in sub-paragraph (i), for the words “United Kingdom official” there shall be substituted the words “Manx official”, and
(ii)sub-paragraph (ii) shall be omitted, and
(d)in subsection (6), for the word “indictment” there shall be substituted the word “information”.
2. For section 135 there shall be substituted the following section –
Proceedings for an offence under section 134 above, as it has effect in the Isle of Man, shall not be begun in the Isle of Man except by, or with the consent of, Her Majesty’s Attorney General for the Isle of Man.”.

This Order extends sections 134 and 135 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 to the Isle of Man with the modifications and exceptions specified in the Schedule to the Order.
