Present,
The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council Her Majesty in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 1(2) of, and paragraphs 1, 2, 3 and 8 of Schedule 1 to, the Medical Act 1983(1), and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the General Medical Council (Constitution) Amendment Order 1989 and, subject to article 2(3) below, shall come into force on 13th April 1989.
2. The General Medical Council (Constitution) Order 1979(2) shall be amended as follows:–
(1) in article 2(a) there shall be substituted for the number“50” the number“54”;
(2) in article 2(b) there shall be substituted for the number“34” the number“35”; and
(3) with effect from 1st November 1989 in column 1 of the Schedule for“and the Faculty of Community Medicine” there shall be substituted“, the Faculty of Community Medicine and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.”.

This Order, made under the Medical Act 1983, amends article 2 of, and the Schedule to, the General Medical Council (Constitution) Order 1979 so as to increase the number of elected members of the Council from 50 to 54, and to provide for an additional member to be appointed by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
