Coming into force
Whereas it appears to the Secretary of State that section 1(1) of the Employment Act 1989 1would otherwise apply to the provisions listed in article 2 of the following Order, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 6(1) of that Act and of all otherpowers enabling him in that behalf, and having consulted the Equal Opportunities Commission in accordance with section 28(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement1
This Order may be cited as the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 2(Exemption of Police Federation Constitutional and Electoral Arrangements) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 16th January 1990.
Exemption for discrimination under the Police Federation Regulations 1969

Section 1(1) of the Employment Act 1989 shall not apply in the case of the following provisions of the Police Federation Regulations 1969 3—
regulations 6, 8(1) and (4), 9, 11(1), (2), (3), (7) and (8), 12 and 14; Schedules 3, 4 and 5; and paragraph 6 of Schedule 6.

Nothing in any of the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 referred to in section 1(2) of the Employment Act 1989 shall render unlawful any act done in order to comply with any requirement of a provision listed in article 2 of this Order.
